About the Role

We are seeking a Lead Data Scientist (m/f/d) to lead a skilled team focused on delivering insights into consumer spending and socio-economic indicators. This role combines deep technical knowledge with leadership, project oversight, and stakeholder engagement. You'll design and maintain scalable data pipelines, guide analytical workflows, and represent the organization in internal and international contexts.

Your Responsibilities

Design, implement, and maintain scalable data pipelines for ingestion, harmonization, transformation, and analysis—primarily using R

Lead development of clean, well-documented, reproducible code across multiple projects using version control and collaborative workflows (e.g., GitHub)

Drive innovation in data architecture and modeling to enable advanced analytics and forecasting

Provide hands-on support with debugging, optimization, and methodological challenges

Translate analytical goals into concrete tasks and lead technical execution from planning through delivery

Mentor and support other data scientists, building a collaborative, high-performance team culture

Coordinate project streams to ensure consistency, on-time delivery, and adherence to internal standards

Review analytical code and outputs for rigor, reproducibility, and transparency

Enforce internal standards for documentation, data ethics, and research integrity

Communicate project status and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Represent the organization at internal meetings, workshops, and selected international events

Your Profile

Required:

Master's or PhD in a STEM field (e.g., Data Science, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science)

Specialization in or strong experience with economic analysis

Advanced skills in R, including workflow reproducibility and code review in multi-developer environments

Extensive experience with data pipeline development and managing large, diverse datasets

Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative coding environments

5+ years in data science or a related field, including 3+ years in a technical leadership role

Solid understanding of economic data, household spending patterns, and policy impacts

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to explain complex topics to broad audiences

Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

Team-oriented mindset with a commitment to fostering a positive team culture

Preferred:

Experience with command-line tools and remote server environments

Familiarity with data visualization tools such as ggplot2, Shiny, or Tableau

Successful track record of leading data-driven projects and delivering insights to external clients

Experience mentoring junior team members and providing constructive feedback

Project management experience with cross-functional collaboration and strategic goal alignment

Ability to inspire others and promote a culture of learning and continuous improvement

The minimum monthly gross salary for this full-time position is €5,000, with higher compensation possible depending on qualifications and experience.
